What Beckett Will Fight For

Lincoln Unified students deserve a board member who listens, leads, and delivers. These are the commitments that will drive every vote.

Don Riggio Middle School Transition

The transition to Don Riggio Middle School is an important project. While it has been and will be disruptive to many families, in the long run this change will benefit the entire district—giving students the options for the best education for them, both at TK–8 schools and dedicated middle schools. But this transition will only succeed if we make it succeed. Don Riggio needs programs and opportunities that ensure it is worthy of being a dedicated middle school.

Don Riggio Middle School Transition

As a Trustee

  • Ensure Don Riggio provides extracurricular activities not currently offered at TK–8 schools.
  • Ensure Don Riggio Middle and Sierra Middle provide the same level of education to all students.
  • Hold frequent community listening sessions to hear what parents and students want in a middle school, and how the school is operating once it's open.

AI Governance & Our Kids

AI is something almost everyone interacts with every day—whether you want to or not. It's there when you google something, when you look up how to cook dinner, and when our kids are doing their homework. AI is a major change to our world. If we don't start tackling the issue of AI and technology in schools, we will fail to support our kids.

AI Governance & Our Kids

As Your Trustee

  • Continue to support the No Cell Phone policy currently enacted at Lincoln Unified across the district.
  • Form a working group to develop an AI policy statement for the district at all levels—how teachers use it for lesson plans, and how our kids use it in classrooms and for homework.

Improving the School-to-Career Pipeline

We must prepare our kids for the world they will enter and help them find a path forward. LUSD has great Career Technical Education (CTE) programs like the Construction and Engineering Academy, but these programs end at the close of high school. We need to work with our community, local businesses, and higher education institutions to create clear pathways for after high school.

Improving the School-to-Career Pipeline

As Your Trustee

  • Create a direct career path to follow after graduation from a CTE program—for example, the Culinary CTE program should connect directly to Delta College culinary classes.
  • Expand CTE offerings at LUSD and bring in additional topics, such as law and justice or cosmetology.
  • Support current programs and ensure teachers and schools have the resources needed to teach them effectively.

Bettering Community Connections

The impact of COVID can still be felt in our community. We often hear about the loss of third spaces—that people aren't going out and interacting anymore. Yet after school is one of the few places people still come together. Students, faculty, parents, friends, and family still come to campus to watch a play, go to a baseball or football game, or attend a graduation ceremony. Our schools are a vital source of community, and we need to expand that outreach and continue to be that vital third space.

Bettering Community Connections

As Your Trustee

  • Expand access to after-school activities by seeking funding for transportation and free or reduced ticket prices for after-school events.
  • Create a safe campus environment at these events and support our school resource officers to keep events safe.
